In a world where we are increasingly represented through digital images, "Magic Mirrors" invites us to reexamine the relationship between self-image and computer simulation.

Technical notes

Magic Mirrors was originally developed in Processing back in 2017.

In 2025, I created new version by "vibe coding" it. Vibe coding is the is the act of chatting with an AI chat bot that writes the code for you.

If an artist has an idea, but a machine writes the code, who should take credit for the work? Does craft come into play? Is a digital artwork more meaningful if the artist hand-wrote every line? What if they just use spellcheck? Where is the line between assistance and authorship? Plenty of working artists maintain armies of interns to execute their vision, after all.
