Bokeh
Processing (2014)

Bokeh is a generative artwork created in Processing that renders and saves digital compositions designed to mimic the photographic effect of out-of-focus lights, also known by the Japanese term "bokeh".
Traditionally, visual artifacts like lens flare, light leaks, and bokeh were considered technical flaws and seen as unintentional byproducts of analog optics.
Today, these same effects are often embraced and even digitally added in post-production in an effort to evoke romance, nostalgia, or "magical realism."

By attempting to isolate the bokeh effect itself, free from any photographic subject or scene, the work seeks to ask whether the effect alone conveys any emotional weight.
Without narrative or context, do these glowing orbs register merely as abstract shapes? Or do some of them stir something deeper, like the sense of memory or déjà vu?
