Kirk Clyne
Generative Artist
I combine my own textual, visual, and sonic inputs by writing CUSTOM SOFTWARE appplications that, in turn, generate audiovisual artworks.
These works exist as DYNAMIC, real-time systems that can "perform" live, generate videos or produce prints.

Animated by the spirits of DADA and punk, I embrace the ABSURD as a coherent response to the incoherence of contemporary life.
The visual language of my work draws upon SURREALIST traditions, and the written elements are influenced by BEAT literature's spontaneity and subversion.
CHANCE is central to my work as a structural principle. LUCK, in the form of random number generators, drives nearly every decision: scale, position, opacity, movement, color, rhythm and sound.
Over time, through repeated observation and adjustment, I alter the software code and curate the media elements until the work consistently produces outcomes that I find meaningful, surprising, or provocative.

The result is an emergent system in which creative agency is distributed between artist and algorithm.
Because no single frame or moment is fixed, the work remains in a constant state of flux, its "final" form determined by the chance timing of each viewer’s encounter.
My work situates itself within the tradition of generative, instruction-based and systems-based art (Cohen, LeWitt, Cage), while also moving it into real-time computer-based systems.
Digital technology allows my work to be perpetually self-generating, always changing, and never fully knowable.
